What this is

Before You Decide Care exists for the gap between being told you need a procedure and agreeing to it. It is slow on purpose. It asks questions rather than answering them, and it is willing to conclude that waiting is reasonable.

It does not recommend travelling anywhere. It does not compare hospitals. Those are separate questions, and mixing them into a decision about whether to have surgery at all tends to distort both.

Publication and operation

Before You Decide Care is operated by a Hong Kong travel company. The operating company is responsible for the website and its business activities. Content preparation and editorial support are provided separately from business operations.

Articles undergo an editorial source check. This is not a claim of review by a licensed clinician. This publication is not a medical provider, regulator, accreditation body or hospital ranking service.

How content is produced

Articles are reviewed before publication. Clinical claims are tied to published sources, which are listed at the foot of each article. Where the evidence does not support a claim, the article says so rather than softening it.

Corrections

If a figure or citation here is wrong, that is a defect. Evidence summaries carry the date of the sources they rely on.

Nothing on this site is medical advice, a diagnosis, or a treatment recommendation for an individual.

Email updates and privacy

This publication offers decision notes about second opinions, questions and the scope of a review. We send up to one update a week when there is a useful new resource. Subscribing here does not subscribe you to the other publications. You must tick the consent box and then confirm through the email we send before your address enters this publication's subscriber list.

Brevo processes signup and email delivery. We use your email address, the form and confirmation records, and necessary delivery or unsubscribe records to run the subscription. The email service also records email opens and link clicks; these signals are imperfect and are not medical information. We do not purchase or import other organisations' readers, sell the subscriber list, or ask for health records. Please do not submit medical or personal health information through the form or in a reply.

Every update includes an unsubscribe link. The publications share an email delivery service; unsubscribing stops email updates sent through this shared service to that address, including any other publication updates you previously subscribed to. You can also request correction, access or deletion of your subscription information by emailing [email protected]. We retain a minimal suppression record after an unsubscribe so that the address is not mailed again inadvertently. Brevo's processing is described in its privacy policy.
